The Importance of a Prayer Life

Getting into a consistent prayer life is a struggle for many of us. It takes discipline: waking early, offering that time to God. And in a busy day, it's easy to forget the conversation altogether. Sometimes we even wonder, if God already knows our needs, why pray at all?

Dear friend, prayer matters. John 14:23 says, “If anyone loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him.” That's a promise: God Himself comes to dwell within us.

What does prayer look like in an ordinary day?

Prayer can simply be pausing to recognise that truth, wherever we are. On the bus, at work, in conversation, we can thank God for being with us and in us. That is a prayer.

The more we stop to notice God's presence through the day, the more it becomes habit. Prayer doesn't need long stretches of time so much as a daily relationship, cultivated moment by moment.

Paul writes, "I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship." (Romans 12:1). Our everyday lives, our work, our conversations, can be offered to God as an act of worship.
