A Prayer for Strength
He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength.
Isaiah 40:29 (ESV)
Isaiah 40 was written to a people who believed God had forgotten them. The prophet's answer wasn't a motivational speech; it was a reminder of who God is. Our strength doesn't come from trying harder. It comes from knowing who we belong to.
A Prayer for Strength
Father, I'm tired. Not just in the way that needs a good night's sleep, I mean tired in the way that goes deeper than rest can reach. The kind of tired that comes from carrying things for too long without putting them down. Thank You that You wrote this promise for people who are depleted. Thank You for Isaiah's words, that You give power to the faint, not to the strong. That when I've reached my limit, I'm exactly the kind of person You're looking for. Thank You too for the times You've already carried me through seasons I didn't think I'd survive. I didn't manufacture strength then; I received it. I believe You'll do it again. I'm coming to You empty-handed. I don't have reserves left to draw on. But You've promised that when I've reached my limit, that's not the end of the story; it's where You begin. I choose to wait on You today. Not passively, not giving up, but leaning into You the way a tree leans into the earth for its roots. You are the source. Be my strength today. In Jesus' name. Amen.
